online to the bostonmarathontips, all one word, fbi.gov. let's get to the manhunt itself. jonathan dietz is in new york. we're trying to figure out -- you know why i'm asking this, it's a speculation, right now at the command center, operating center, what is happening in terms of the filtering, archiving and catalog of calls coming in. we're told by pete williams that the fbi is receiving calls of suspected matchups with the faces here. >> they are getting some names and now what they are trying to do is run those names through data is bas and s databases and there is no name to match the suspects. but they are operating those lines. they have task force teams obviously ready to run out and follow any leads as they come in. some names are being offered from the calls and e-mails that are coming in but as of now there is no certain match and they are, again, using all their computers and technology to try to, as the names come in, to try to find them and find out which tips are more credible than the others. >> i'm wondering, jonathan, if you were in that crowd and survived and you're wa
. >>. >> jonathan, we've got the materials at hand which has been discovered, the pressure cooker, battery pack and circuit board and i didn't mention a piece of black nylon that was part of the bag. >> the best estimate that we have gotten is if they can track this to where they were sold and who purchased them, that's going to lead us to the suspect. we've seen this in previous investigations in the 1993 world trade center bombing. and as a result they caught the suspects m sa suspects. same theory here. that's part of the investigation and pouring all over the videotapes for leads and that one piece of videotape of a suspect putting down a bag outside the lord & taylor or caught on the lord & taylor surveillance tape is another. again, as pete williams and myself have been reporting all day, there is no suspect. there is no arrest. there is no specific name. now, we've been told that there have been several names out there that obviously they would want to run them down but we've been told that it's ruled out. the investigation is ongoing, moving forward. the piece of tape is one of many cri
's drill down on the legal status of the boston bombing suspect. kendall coffey. the great jonathan turley, here in washington. thank you for this. can they decide later if a poiee of evidence shows up a week from now, that shows a connection, e-mail, whatever, connection with al qaeda, taking orders, timing, that kind of thing? does the government change the status of this defendant? >> no, he's a u.s. citizen. he has presumption of innocence. some people get constitutional rights and some do not. they've always focused on whether the person is a u.s. senate as key factor here. what senator graham was talking about is pretty alarming. he's talking about enemy combatants which is -- >> suppose you go overseas to join al qaeda somewhere and you're with them. are you still an american under the law? >> my view you are. >> under the government's view? >> well, we haven't changed the u.s. constitution yet. and what senator graham is talking about is actually wruziwruz i using enemy combatant status as a way of getting evidence. it's no longer the justification we have to ice thsolate them in g
reporter jonathan dienst. thank you, jonathan. what do we got new? you've listened to the first part of this show. we're talking about what the suspect has had to say, the surviving suspect about being out there all alone. two brothers operating alone, technically, and also apparently ideologically. they were picking up their radicalization over the internet. not through any coaching or role of anybody as a sort of a recruiter. >> well, that is the claim that investigators say is being made by the wounded younger brother who continues to recover in the hospital. investigators are now running around, as you heard, they're trying to verify that. they are checking with all of the relatives. you've got the wife, you've got two sisters in new jersey. you've got the parents overseas. you've got russian intelligence. you've got -- they're tracking their cell phones. as of now, nothing to indicate, but, again, it is still very early on for them to have done a deep dive to find out exactly if there are any connections to any others, whether there's a bomb maker or a trainer or some sort of ji
now wnbc's jonathan dienst is with us from new york. i understand you have a lot to brief us on in terms of the travel, in terms of the weaponry found at the site the other night. whatever you've got, we need it. >> we're told there are seven improvised explosive devices that have been recovered from the vehicle where they were allegedly throwing out the bombs at the police officers, to some of the devices that were found including one of those pressure cooker bombs that the older brother heaved toward the police officers and was opening fire during that wild and insane shootout that was taking place overnight. and the search continues for this suspect. they're doing it literally in a grid house-by-house, location-by-location in and around the area where he was last seen. have the whole area cordoned off. why is it taking so much time? because it is a significant area they're recovering. they remain hopeful that they will track him down, but we've got no indication that they have a sight on him at this hour. >> tell me about the older brother's travel to russia. >> yeah, it w
